ability test : A
test designed to measure what a person can do. Ability tests are sub -
divided into aptitude and achievement test.
achievement test : An ability test designed to appraise
what the individual has learnt to do as a result of planned previous
experience or training.
affective : Related to attitudes, dispositions,
motivations, preferences, tastes, of values.
aim : A general change intended to be brought about in
a learner.
analysis : the examination of a whole by separation
into its component parts.
aptitude : Capacity for learning.
assessment : An informal or general judgement : a
measure of achievement.
behavioral objective : An educational objective stated
in terms of a specific or typical overt action to be performed by the
learner following instruction.
cognitive : Related to knowledge or intellectual
activity.
competency based : Designed so that demonstrated
achievement alone determines learner progress and qualifications.
constructed - response test : A test (usually written)
in which the examinee writes the answers to questions in his or her own
words.
continuous assessment : A frequently made judgement on
the changing characteristics of students from which longitudinal studies
and / or final assesment may be made.
criterion referenced test : Tests to establish the
extent to which the student has achieved the stated objective. The
criterion is a per - determined level of achievement.
curriculum : An organized set of formal educational and
/ or training intentions.
design : A deliberate process of devising, planning,
and selecting the elements, techniques, and procedures that constitute
some object or endeavour.
difficulty index : A numerical value used to express
the difficulty of a test item. It may be stated as the percent of the
total class or the percent of the more or less able students in the
class getting the item correct.
discrimination : The capacity to distinguish between
categories or groups.
discrimination index : Estimate of difference between
scores on a test item of more and less knowledgeable or proficient
examinees.
distractor : A term sometimes used to designate the
incorrect response options provided in a multiple choice item.
education : Development of an individual that include
exposure to significant experiences.
educational technology : The development of a set of
systematic techniques, and accompanying practical knowledge, for
designing, testing and operation schools as educational system.
evaluation : A process of judgement based on comparison
of ascrtained measurement against criteria.
feasibility : The capacity to be successfully realized
in the real world.
first test : A tryout of a program under "typical
use' conditions.
formative evaluation : Evaluation conducted for the
purpose of diagnosis and correction.
goal : A general term encompassing all types of
learning outcomes.
grading : Recording student achievement using an
alphabetical or percentage scale. The result is in ascending or
descending order of students.
impression marking : A subjective approach to student
assessment.
internal evaluation : A review of a completed
curriculum by its developers, usually conducted prior to external
review.
item analysis : A formal technique for the evaluation
of individual test items by examination of the pattern of response.
mastery : The possession of a high degree of knowledge,
ability, or expertise.
Mastery learning : an approach to instruction aiming at the development
of mastery in almost all learners.
norm - referenced : Judged by comparison with the
performance of others.
objective : A specific behaviour - intended to be
brought about in a learner.
parameter : A constant or design characteristic of a
system, whose value determines the nature or behaviour of the system.
problem solving : The process of arriving at a
diagnosis or treatment plan.
reliability : The degree to which a test is consistent
in measuring whatever it does measure.
selected - response test : A test in which the examinee
chooses an answer to each question from a given list of alternatives.
simulation : a representation under controlled
conditions of phenomena or events in the real world.
standardized test : A test consisting of items refined
by successive tryout, analysis, and revision, administered under clearly
defined conditions, and allowing comparision of test performance with
norms based on tests of extensive sample populations.
summative evaluation : Evaluation made subsequent to
completion to judge achievement of objectives.
task analysis : The examination of an activity by
breaking into description of its component element and their
interrelationships.
validity : The extent to which a test actually measures
the characteristics it is intended to measure.
